For decades coal has kept our lights on and been the source of thousands of jobs in the Illawarra, both underground and in the steel mills.

Scientists have known for more than a century, that burning coal was forming a blanket over our atmosphere, trapping heat in the ground and oceans. They have been continuously warning us that a hotter planet would lead to catastrophic instability in our weather systems.

We urgently need to reduce emissions to leave a safe planet for our kids and grandkids.

Offshore Wind represents a massive leap forward in our ability to hit our emissions targets, power our industry, boost our economy and keep our lights on.

It has a high “Capacity Factor” which means that it produces more power for more of the time than other renewable energy sources, such as onshore wind and solar.

With different renewable energy sources, our power supply will be more reliable and resilient.

Australia’s coal-fired power stations are reaching the end of their lives and the world is walking away from fossil fuels.

Nuclear can’t compete with renewables on cost or timeframes. It’s too inflexible to be compatible with a grid dominated by renewables firmed with storage.

Offshore Wind will create new jobs and manufacturing opportunities that will stimulate our local economy well into the future.

Opposition voices, including those that have delayed action on climate change for decades, are cloaking climate obstruction in environmentalism.

Meanwhile, organisations who have fought for decades to protect the environment all support Offshore Wind.

These include: Greenpeace, the Nature Conservation Council, the Australian Conservation Foundation and Friends of the Earth.

Beyond Coal Coast supports the Illawarra Offshore Wind Farms with strong environmental protections as part of the approval conditions and with community benefits delivered to our region.
